Regulus Returned to Carthage. After a work by Benjamin West and Valentine Green. Marcus Atilius Regulus, circa 307 BC- circa 250 BC. Roman consul and general. He was captured by the Carthaginians during the First Punic War and released on parole to return to Rome and negotiate peace. He urged the Senate to refuse the offer, then voluntarily returned to Carthage to fulfill the terms of his parole.
