Japan. Persecution of Christians. The Great Martyrdom of Nagasaki (September 10, 1622). On that date, twenty-two missionaries and Japanese Christians were burned. Thirty others, including women and children, were beheaded in the presence of a large crowd. Engraving from a Japanese watercolour of the time, preserved in the Church of the Gesvp in Rome.
