Benedictine monastery of Vezelay, in Burgundy, France. The monk Baudillon brought relics of Mary Magdalene from Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume to Vezelay. Pope Stephen IX proclaimed the authenticity of the relics in 1058. Legendary bearing by Baudillon and the Carolingian Count Gerard de Roussillon (810-874), who had donated the land for the construction of the monastery.
