One of a series of four prints showing King's African Rifles soldiers leaving Nairobi to fight in German East Africa (Tanzania.) This print shows a railway carriage waiting at a station or siding prior to embarkation. In the background are piles of supplies and equipment, including a gun carriage, and a pitched tent. A number of European officers are talking in front of the carriage and African askari are standing around. Original page caption: Departure. 1/2nd Bn: K.A.R. August 4th 1916.
