Two British naval steamships, HMS Phoenix and RMS Monteagle, lie stricken in shallow waters in the aftermath a devastating typhoon that killed an estimated 10,000 people. Original manuscript caption: Hong Kong Typhoon 18-9-06. R.M.S. Monteagle. C.P.R. 1,000 tons- ashore with only 2 or 3 ft of water under keel. (floated successfully) H.M.S. Phoenix cast up on beach like a box of matches.
