Frederic Cournet (Frederic Etienne Cournet) (1837-1885). French journalist who worked for the newspaper ""Le Reveil"". He took part in the defence of Paris during the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) commanding a battalion of the National Guard. Member of the Paris Commune in March 1871. After the end of the Commune he fled to Great Britain and was condemned to death. In November 1871 he was elected member of the General Council of the First International. After the amnesty of 1880 Cournet returned to France, became one of the leaders of the Blanquists in Lyon and Paris and took up journalism again. Portrait. Engraving.
