Joan of Arc (1412-1431) is a French saint and national heroine. In 1430, she was captured by the English as she retreated to Compiegne. A trial was held at Rouen. This engraving of Joan before the judges at the trial dates to the end of the 1400s. The text is the opening passage of a copy of the proccedings (written in Latin) at the trial.
