J.M. Conde illustrated the tales of the legendary Greek fablist Aesop. The one here is ""Bell the Cat,"" with the moral: It is one thing to say something should be done, but quite a different matter to do it. Conde published his drawings in 1905 in New York. Aesop was a sixth-century B.C. legendary composer of Greek fables, whose characters were animals. Each fable had a moral. It was said that Aesop was a slave and had been freed by his master. .
