Joan of Arc (1412-1431) traveled to the castle at Chinon, a dangerous trip through enemy territory. The Dauphin Charles was there and Joan wanted to tell him that she had been sent from God to bring him aid. In this tapestry, produced in Germany in the 1400s, Charles is shown greeting Joan at the drawbridge to the castle. This did not happen, however. Rather, she was brought to the great hall and there met the Dauphin.
