Count John de Dunois (1403-1468), often called the ""Bastard of Orleans,"" was a distinguished French commander. His father was Louis, duke of Orleans and brother of Charles VI of France. It was John who defended Orleans against the English and held out until Joan of Arc arrived. In 1450, he completed the reconquest of northern France. This drawing of the Count dates to about 1450.
