The figures represented here a French citizen and Charles VII around A.D. 1400. Charles VII was known as the Well-Served and the Victorious. It was to Joan of Arc, the Mad of Orleans, that Charles owed the breaking of the siege laid by the English against the city of Orleans in 1429 and also his coronation at Rheims that followed that same year. The illustration dates to 1882.
