William III (1650-1702) served as king of England, Scotland, and ireland from 1689 to 1702. He made peace with England in Dutch Wars. He married Mary, Protestant daughter of James II. During his reign, the Bank of England was chartered in 1694 and the policy of permanent national debt was begun.
