John Alexander Logan (1826-1886) was an American politician, and he served as a Union general in the Civil War (1861-1865). He served as a U.S. Congressman (1867-1871) and a U.S. Senator (1871-1877, 1879-1886). Logan inaugurated Memorial Day in 1886.
