In May 1498, Sebastian Cabot left Bristol, England, enroute west across the Atlantic and reached Labrador, about 400 miles north of the site where his father, John, had landed in June 1497. English claims to the land were based on John's discoveries. The drawing depicts Sebastian Cabot's boat reaching the Labrador coast in 1498.
