Sir Martin Frobisher (1535? - 1594) was an English mariner. Licensed by England's Queen Elizabeth and backed by merchants, he made three unsuccessful voyages to the arctic region in search of the Northwest Passage (1576, 1577, 1578). Frobisher Bay in the Northwest Territories in Canada is named for him. In 1585, he commanded a ship in Sir Francis Drake's West Indies expedition. .
