San Francisco, California July 20, 1961 Fog dulls San Francisco's skyline as the streamlined super liner SS Canberra arrives on its maiden voyage. The 45,270-ton, 820-foot long P & O Orient Lines vessel is only the fifth largest passenger line liner in the world, but her passenger capacity is larger than any other vessel. Her 40,000-mile maiden voyage will end in Southampton, England, following stops in Long Beach, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia and Indian Ocean ports.
