New Mexico c 1948 Two young girls viewing the Continental Divide marker halfway between Lordsburg and Deming, New Mexico, at an elevation of 4,587 feet, which is also the lowest railroad crossing of the Divide in the United States. Waters east of the Divide flow into the Atlantic, to the west, they flow into the Pacific.
