Baptism of Rollo
Légende
Rollo (c. 860 - c. 932) was the leader of the Norman pirates. Rollo, also known as Rolt, ravaged the Seine River area. To secure peace, Charles III of France made a treaty with him, surrendering to Rollo the land on the Lower Seine. The treaty was concluded at St. Clair sur Epte in 911. The land Rollo received was afterward called Normandy. Rollo swore an oath of fidelity to Charles, and was baptized into the Christian religion ( pictured here), and received the name of Robert.
