Mummified Egyptian Cats
Légende
These three mummified cats are housed in the British Museum in London. The one on the left was given to the museum in 1835 by Sir J.G. Wilkinson. The one on the right is from Abydos and dates to the Roman period of occupation in Egypt (after 30 B.C.). It was presented to the museum by the Egypt Exploration Fund. Cats were especially honored in ancient Egypt, and some were mummified as these three here. Bastet (also called Bast) was an ancient Egyptian cat-headed goddess.
