The Battle of Manila Bay, in the Philippines, took place on May 1, 1898, during the Spanish American War. The American Asiatic squadron was under the command of Commodore George Dewey, and it destroyed the Spanish Pacific Squadron under Admiral Patricio Montojo y Pasaron. In this 1898 illustration, Dewey is shown aboard his ship, the USS Olympia.
