According to Swedish mythology and the sagas, Ingebor and Hjalmar loved each other. Hjalmar was a huscarl, or member of the household troops of the legendary Swedish king Yngvi. Hjalmar was a princess at Uppsala. Yngvi would not say yes to Hjalmar's request to marry his daughter as he wanted a suitor of a higher social status. Hjorvard, son of the feared beserker Angrim, wanted marry Ingeborg. Hjalmar was mortally wounded by Hjorvard's brother Angantyr with his cursed sword Tyrfing. In this 1908 illustration, Ingeborg wistfully stares out the window of her father's home, thinking of Hjalmar.
