Thor and the Mountain
Légende
In Norse mythology, Thor was the god of thunder, and thus the god of might and war. The son of Odin, he had a magical hammer named Mjollnir that returned to him, a belt of stength, and iron gloves. According to the myth, Thor made war against the giants. In one tale, he carved out three valleys in a mountain in a valley near Utgard (pictured here) when he threw his hammer at a giantt named Shrymir (at right) who was really Utgard-Loki in disguise and using the mountain as a shield. Utgard-Loki was the king of the giants of the city of Utgard. This 1908 illustration is by English artist J.C. Dollman.
