Putting Out a Fire
Légende
Firemen drag the hose up long ladders to reach the upper stories of a building on fire in the Chicago, Illinois, area around 1909. To reach high buildings, hose was attached to the rtop of the tower, as seen on the engine at right. Tall buildings at the time had standpipes running from the ground through the floors to the top through which water is forced.
