Escape of the Dunstan family

Historical accounts of English settlements on the Androscoggen in the 'New World' in the early years tell of frontier warfare. One episode involved the Dunstan family in Haverhill (in what is present-day Massachusetts). On March 15, 1697, natives attacked. Mr. Dunstan, a father of eight, was at work and came running to his family. His wife had recently given birth and was in bed. A nurse was with her. Mr. Dunstan took a rifle and kept firing to protect the seven children with whom he managed to escape.
