The 1907 caption reads: 'The Three Beggars from Bohmer Country - contemporary leaflet of the events of the year 1620.' This is an old Serbian folktale, The Three Beggars tells of a young girl who stops her rich but cruel father from setting his dogs on three old men who come begging to his door. The old men are actually fairies and say that a baby will be born in a nearby village and he will one day be rich and own much land, including that of the girl’s father. All comes to pass, just as the fairies predicted. This page is from a leaflet printed around 1620.
