Signature of Charlemagne: Signum + Caroli Gloriosissimi Regis (Latin meaning: “Seal of the Most Glorious King Carolus”). Charlemagne, or Charles the Great, was the emperor of the West (800-814) and the king of the Franks (768-814). A.D. 800, he restored Leo III to the papal seat and was crowned emperor by Leo on Christmas Day.
