Frederick at Sans Souci
Légende
In the early years of his kingship, Frederick the Great admired French wit and culture, and gathered round him in his favorite palace of Sans-Souci (Potsdam, Germany) many of the leading French writers of the time, Voltaire among the number. You see here the Sans-Souci dining table which, with Frederick at its head, has become so celebrated in history. But it has to be feared there was far more cruelty and malice about the table than ever there was of wit.
