Bowie Knife and Sheath
Légende
At the time of the American Civil War (1861-1865), the Mississippi rifleman was renowned as an extremely accurate sharpshooter. In addition to a rifle, these fighters carried in their belt a sheath knife, known as a bowie knife. The knife was a formidable weapon in hand-to-hand combat. Its origin is connected with an incident in the life of Colonel Bowie, who was engaged in the revolt of Texas against Mexico in 1835 and 1836. When his sword blade broke in an encounter, he converted the remainder into a stout, sharp pointed knife.
