Convention Room in Wheeling

In Wheeling, Virginia, a Convention was held on June 11, 1861. The engraving shows the room in the Custom House where the delegates from about 40 counties met. After each delegate's name and credentials were read, the delegate then swore an oath of allegiance to the Constitution of the United States and the laws 'in pursuance thereof.'.
