Isabella I (1451-1504). Queen of Castile (1474-1504). Queen consort of Aragon for her marriage to Ferdinand II of Aragon. Engraving depicting the monument to Isabella the Catholic erected in Madrid, inaugurated at the end of November 1883. The sculptural group was cast in bronze by Alessandro Nelli (1842-after 1897), based on the model designed by the sculptor Manuel Oms (1842-1889). Isabella is shown riding a horse, holding the Romanesque cross of the Reconquest in her right hand. The other two figures that complete the group are Cardinal Pedro Gonzalez de Mendoza (1428-1495) and Gonzalo Fernandez de Cordoba (1453-1515), known as ""El Gran Capitan"" (The Great Captain).
