History of Italy. Rome. Sixth anniversary of the death of Victor Emmanuel II (1820-1878) and 25th anniversary of the proclamation of the unity of the fatherland. On 9 January 1884, the Kings of Italy, Umberto I (1844-1900) and Margherita of Savoy (1851-1926), accompanied by Victor Emmanuel, Prince of Naples (their son and successor to the throne), and the Duchess of Genoa, made their way from the Quirinal Palace to the Pantheon to attend the religious commemoration ceremony behind closed doors.
