History of Germany. Berlin. Imperial Palace. The Russian Military Deputation congratulating Emperor Wilhelm I of Germany (1797-1888) on the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Bar-sur-Aube (27 February 1814), with victory of the Russo-Bavarian coalition against Napoleon I during the 1814 campaigns. The ceremony was held on 27 February 1884. The German Emperor was accompanied by all the princes of the Imperial family and the Prussian field marshal Helmuth von Moltke (1800-1891). The Russian delegation was headed by the Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich of Russia (1878-1918), youngest brother of the last Tsar Nicholas II, as well as Generals Iosif Gurko (1828-1901), Ivan Mikhailovich Obolensky (1853-1910), and Count Pyotr Andreyevich Shuvalov (1827-1889).
