Expulsion of the Moriscos from Spain by order of King Philip III in 1609 after debate in the Council of State. It was decided to expel the Moriscos on 9 April 1609, which the king approved. The expulsion began in the kingdom of Valencia. The Moriscos were Christians of Muslim origin who were forced to convert to Christianity after the conquest of the Muslim kingdoms by the Christian peninsular kingdoms.
