Siege of Ceuta (23 October 1694 to 22 April 1727). The army of the Moroccan Sultan Muley Isma'il (1678-1727) carried out an armed blockade of the city of Ceuta. The Marquis of Lede (Jean Francois Nicolas de Bette, 1672-1725), a Flemish military officer in the service of Spain, arrived in 1720 with a military contingent to repel the besiegers.
