Spain. Catalonia. Spanish War of Independence (1808-1814). The city of Manresa opposed much resistance to French occupation. Between 1810 and 1812, the French Imperial Army carried out five incursions on the city. From 16 March to 4 April 1810, a significant French contingent under the command of General Schwartz entered Manresa. On 5 November, they carried out a punitive operation in the town, setting fire to and looting houses. On 30 March 1811, the most serious events occurred in occupied Manresa.
