This illustration shows the massacre at Fort Mims (also spelled Mimms) that took place on August 30, 1813. Fort Mims was located some 40 miles north of Mobile, Alabama. The Red Sticks faction of Creek Indians, under Red Eagle, Peter McQueen, and William Weatherford attacked the fort. Major Beasley had heeded warnings and a massacre ensued.
