Matthew Corvinus (also spelled Matthias Corvinus) was king of Hungary and also Croatia.. He lived from 1443-1490. This bronze medal with his head in profile and words 'Matthias Rex Hungariae' (Matthias, King of Hungary). Matthias was said to have ruled a 'European superpower' by the end of his reign. His many wars were paid for by taxing the peasants heavily. This medal was by an Italian artisan unknown to us today.
