The famed English author Charles Dickens traveled with his family to Switzerland in 1846. With him was his wife, six children, and his dog. The home pictured here is the Villa Rosemont, where he stayed in the city of Lausanne. He had a staff of four servants. And he spent five months writing Dombey and Son and working on other material. This drawing is from The Life of Charles Dickens by John Forster, Vol II (1842-1852).
