Charles Dickens (1812-1870) is one of the best known and most distinguished English novelists. He lived during the Victorian era. This engraving of Dickens at age 47 was the frontispiece to Vol. II of John Forster's 1873 biography of Dickens. It was engraved by Robert Graves and based on a portrait done for John Forster in 1859 by W.P. Frith.
