Road to Vidalia

This illustration, titled The Road to Vidalia, accompanied text in Mary Johnston's book about the Civil War in the United States that was titled Cease Firing and was published in 1912. It was done by the renowned American artist and illustration N.C. Wyeth (1882-1945), who studied under Howard Pyle. It shows soldiers pushing a cannon through mire and muck, as horses pull the cart and all. Officers urgeon their troops. Vidalia is in Louisiana. Blue uniforms were worn mostly by Confederate troops, and gray by Union troops.
