This photogravure of Ralph Waldo Emerson is from an etching by E. Reich and done around 1908. Emerson (1803-1892) was an American essayist, poet, and philosopher. He was pastor of Old North Church in Boston, Massachusetts. His writings include Essays ( 1st series, 1841; 2d series, 1844) -the best known being 'The Over-Soul' and 'Self-Reliance.' Other writings include 'Nature' and 'Representative Men.'.
