The caption on this 1902 illustration reads: Prince Rupert feel on with such fury-Battle of Edgehill. It is from Memoirs of a Cavalier by Daniel Defoe. Memoirs of a Cavalier is a work of historical fiction by Daniel Defoe, set during the Thirty Years' War and the English Civil Wars. The full title, which bore no date, was: Memoirs of a Cavalier; or A Military Journal of the Wars in Germany, and the Wars in England from the Years 1632 to 1648. Daniel Defoe was an English trader, writer, journalist, pamphleteer and spy. He is most famous for his novel Robinson Crusoe, published in 1719, which is claimed to be second only to the Bible in its number of translations.
