The caption of the 1917 illustration reads: Horatio Nelson and his pony struggled on riding to school. Nelson was born in 1758 in Norfolk, England. At the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 (part of the Napoleonic Wars), British Admiral Horatio Nelson was aboard the vessel Victory, whose Captain was Thomas Hardy. Nelson struck by a bullet that entered his left shoulder, pierced his lung, and settled at the bottom of his spine. He died soon after. The British won the battle.
