Carved into the ceiling of the portico of a chapel  at the Temple of Dendera  was this bas-relief  showing the signs of the Zodiac. This map of stars shows the 12 constellations of the Zodiac. It is known as the Dendera zodiac (or Denderah zodiac). The chapel was dedicated to the Egyptian god Osiris and the Temple was sacred to the goddess Hathor. Dendera is a small town on the Nile in southern Egypt. The ancient Egyptians worshipped Hathor as the goddess of joy and motherhood. Osiris was the god of the afterlife and the underworld.
