This figure, known as a god-fish, was drawn by Faucher-Gudin from an Assyrian bas-relief from Nimrud to accompany a book on ancient Egypt by Gaston Maspero. This bas-relief decorated an area near to entrance to the Assyrian palace at Nimrud. This fish-god was known as Dagon. Nimrud, on eof the chief cities of ancient Assyria, is in what is present-day northern Iraq.
