The Pee Dee are a nation of Native Americans in southeastern United States. Francis Marion was the general under whom the Pee Dee fought for the Continentals during the American Revolution. They were known as the Raccoon Company. This illustration, which dates to 1894, shows Marion crossing the Little Pee Dee River in South Carolina in boats that were more life rafts. With him are Pee Dee tribesmen.
