This 1800s engraving—on three boards— illustrates the 'Procession of the League.' The League referred to is the Catholic League,  also known as the Holy League. Here, the members are all shown armed and ready to do battle. The League was formed by he French Henry I, Duke of Guise, in 1576. It was the time of the Protestant Reformation, the Wars of Religions, and Henry I's intent was to eliminate Protestantism in France.
