This chromolithograph shows the French king Louis XIII at age 16, the age he was when he took control of the country as king.. He is the figure in the yellowish outfit, with a plumed hat, at the top of the stairs. He is preparing to mount his horse, being held by attendants. Louis had ascended the throne as a minor, in 1610, and so his mother, Marie de' Medici, ruled as regent. He turned 13 in 1614, but Marie continued as regent and ruler til 1617, when Louis at age 16, with his supporters, overthrew  his mother and her supporters. This lithogrpah is by Crispin de Pas, a well-known Dutch publisher and engraver who died in 1637.
