This image shows General Sir George White (1835–1912). He is best known as the commander of Ladysmith (in Zulu land in South Africa) during the Second Boer War during the South African War (1899-1902). He was awarded the Victoria Cross for his heroism in the Second Afghan War. In 1900 he became commander in chief of Gibraltar. He was a son of a Gordon Highlander.
