Jean Baptiste Greuze (1725–1805) was a French genre and portrait painter. His works are characterized as sentimental and moralistic. He was praised by Diderot. Among his best known works are Les Deux Soeurs, La Malediction paternelle, La Cruche Cassee, and L’Innocence tenant deux Pigeons.
